The extraction-focused DMZ mode in Warzone gained popularity during the lifespan of Modern Warfare 2. However, there is uncertainty about the future of this PvPvE mode following the release of MW3’s Season 1. Here’s all you need to know about DMZ’s future.

Alongside MW2, Call of Duty introduced its version of the extraction genre through DMZ, a free-to-play PvPvE mode designed to provide a more tactical experience compared to traditional multiplayer or Warzone.

Warzone is set for a major update alongside Modern Warfare 3’s Season 1 on December 6, introducing the return of classic mechanics that players have been desperate to see as well as the new Urzikstan map. But what does Warzone’s next chapter mean for DMZ?

Here’s everything we know about DMZ’s future after MW3’s Season 1 arrives.

Will DMZ have support in MW3?

DMZ will still be supported on the existing maps (Al Mazrah, Ashika Island, Vondel, Building 21, and Koshchi Complex) after MW3’s Season 1 release, however, it won’t receive new content and share progression with MW3 or Warzone.

Activision mentioned in a statement that the mode will “remain fully playable across all current DMZ content,” but won’t be “available or interact directly within Modern Warfare III or Call of Duty: Warzone.”

Also, the dev team said that “not having cross progression with Modern Warfare III and Warzone may be frustrating for some players” but they felt it was the “time to take all the learning from the Beta that we could apply towards future development efforts…”

Despite not integrating with the new 2023 title, the team wanted to make sure “players still enjoy the mode” ensuring they keep a “variety of content available.”
