MW3 Zombies is a new way to enjoy the undead experience, with an open-world twist on the classic game mode. The round-based format is gone, and now the difficulty is determined by Threat Zones, so here’s how they work in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies.

The Modern Warfare series now has its very own Zombies mode in MW3. Rather than the classic round-based mode, Modern Warfare 3 brings an open-world PvP format on the “largest Call of Duty Zombies map ever,” which happens to be the same map of Warzone: Urzikstan.

Instead of advancing to increasingly difficult rounds by killing all the undead, Modern Warfare 3 Zombies features three different “Threat Zones” to keep the challenge contained. Different missions and contracts can be found in the multiple color-coded zones, so you better be ready.

Here’s everything you need to know about MW3 Zombies’ new Threat Zones feature.

What are Threat Zones in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies?

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies’ Threat Zones are how the difficulty scales in the open world, where progressing to the next Zone will feature tougher enemies and most likely, greater rewards.

There are three Threat Zones in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies: Low, Medium, and High Threat. Enemy health will increase in each Zone, as it was compared by the devs to the increasing difficulty of “rounds” in the traditional mode.

MW3 Zombies also features Act missions through “cinematic acts,” that span in these Threat Zones. You can now finish the first three acts to unlock a special Operator skin and tackle the new missions of Act 4 in MWZ.

You’ll need to ensure you’re using the Pack-a-Punch and Perk Machines to have a chance of surviving the next High Threat Zone and Exfil successfully.

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies appears to be heavily inspired by Cold War’s Outbreak mode but takes many elements from DMZ, like Assimilation, Proximity Chat, and Operator slots.

That’s everything you need to know about the Threat Zones feature in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies mode. For more on MW3, or its multiplayer modes, check out the rest of our content:
