It was revealed at the Call of Duty Next event that Treyarch are going to bring Ranked Play to MW3, as Greg Reisdorf, Sledgehammer’s Multiplayer Creative Director, said they will “update it, modernize it from Modern Warfare 2, bring that forward. Then for Season 1.5, mid-season one, we’ll have it out and that’s when it’s going to launch.”

The devs doubled down on this release window in the MW3 Season 1 blog, which detailed what to expect: “Presented by Treyarch in partnership with Sledgehammer Games, Multiplayer Ranked Play launches mid-season and builds upon the foundation established in Modern Warfare II with new rewards to earn and updated Modern Warfare III maps, weapons, and Loadout content.”
Although no details have been shared about how Ranked Play will work yet, we expect the mode to continue to encourage players to climb Skills Divisions and earn SR along the way.
MW3 Ranked Play requires players to follow the rules and restrictions of the Call of Duty League (CDL). If you’re not familiar with the CDL format, this has players play matches of Search and Destroy, Hardpoint, and Control in a 4v4 format with specific weapon restrictions in place.
