As the release of Modern Warfare 3 draws near, players have been eagerly requesting the return of the fan-favorite game mode from Modern Warfare 2019 with the game’s launch.

While not all Modern Warfare 2019 changes were positively received by the Call of Duty community, the game introduced significant changes to the franchise and incorporated new features that became staples in subsequent game releases, including Modern Warfare 3.

One of these successful additions was the introduction of a fan-favorite game mode called Gunfight, a rendition of 2011 MW3’s original Face Off mode. The mode quickly gained the appreciation of fans, and now, players are eager for the return of this game mode with SHG’s Modern Warfare 3 (2023).

The Gunfight game mode was first featured in Modern Warfare 2019.

“If MW3 doesn’t have Gunfight on release I am going to cry,” stated the Reddit post author, worried devs are “using Cutthroat as an excuse not to do gunfight.” Cutthroat is MW3’s new low-count player game mode available at the game’s launch.

“Gunfight tournaments indeed was peak COD for me. Best mode ever,” one user enthusiastically stated in the comments, and went on to caution, “But prepare to cry, because they haven’t mentioned gunfight at all, so it will 100% not be at launch.”

Another user shared their perspective, stating: “MW19 is the only one that made gunfight feel like a fully fleshed out mode. CW tried to make exclusive small maps but they just felt like slightly smaller normal maps… The MWII just cut small areas out of existing maps.”

While Gunfight served as the inspiration for Cutthroat, the chances of the original mode making a comeback in MW3 are relatively slim. Nevertheless, players haven’t forgotten how this version remained unparalleled by any subsequent iteration.

Anyway, the inclusion of Gunfight in Modern Warfare 3, even as a Cutthroat variation, remains uncertain, and only time will reveal whether the intense mode will return for players’ enjoyment.

In the meantime, be sure to check out how to play Modern Warfare 3’s campaign early or why players are worried SBMM will “ruin” the game’s multiplayer.
