Modern Warfare 2 players will be relieved to hear that most of their weapons and purchases will carry over in Modern Warfare 3, however, the devs have explained why certain items could get lost when the sequel arrives.

Modern Warfare 3 will be officially released on November 10, and ahead of its full reveal through an in-game Warzone event, leaks have begun revealing many of the classic weapons and maps that will arrive in the sequel.

Fans were also happy to hear that, their weapon and Operator purchases from Modern Warfare 2 will carry over to MW3. This means that players will get another year of value out of their favorite Blueprints and skins, which would have previously been lost in multiplayer.

However, the Modern Warfare 3 developers have confirmed in the ‘Carry Forward’ blog that not all purchases and unlocks will be making their way to the new game.

Although Modern Warfare 2 weapons will feature in MW3 multiplayer, the follow-up isn’t guaranteed to feature the same vehicles or Lethal and Tactical Equipment. So, any skins unlocked for vehicles or Equipment that don’t exist in Modern Warfare 3 won’t carry over.

The good news is, these skins will work in Modern Warfare 2 should you choose to boot up the old game after MW3 launches.

Any Base Operators that are yet to be unlocked through challenges tied specifically to Modern Warfare 2 will also be unavailable in Modern Warfare 3. For example, if an Operator is earned through its single-player campaign or Spec Ops mode, then they can not be obtained in the new game.

Luckily, players will still have the option to go back and pick them up in Modern Warfare 2, which will then unlock them in MW3. Any skins for those Operators will also carry over once their Base version has been unlocked.

While this news may come as slight frustration to those who preferred certain vehicle skins or haven’t earned a specific Operator, fans will still be happy to hear that most of their unlocks and purchases will be waiting for them on Modern Warafre 3 launch day.
