Modern Warfare 3 devs tease slide canceling return with cryptic creator package
Call of Duty 2023 is all but confirmed to be titled Modern Warfare 3, and the devs have strongly hinted at the return of the controversial slide-canceling mechanic in this year’s game in a merch pack sent out to content creators.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the reveal of Call of Duty 2023, which is reportedly set to be called Modern Warfare 3 and act as a follow-up to Infinity Ward’s 2022 release. The sequel is due to be officially announced through an in-game event in Warzone 2, but a few leaks and details are beginning to emerge.
Now, it seems that the Modern Warfare 3 devs are teasing a return of slide canceling after it was removed with Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2.
As is often the case in the lead-up to a major announcement, a host of content creators received a Call of Duty 2023 merch pack. However, instead of the usual selection of clothes, the package contained items that were seemingly random at first glance.
During an August 6 Live stream, various creators such as Kris “FaZe Swagg” Lamberson opened the package and revealed a pair of sliders, a tin can, and a cell phone. When put together, the objects spell out “slide-can-cell,” hinting that the feature will return in Modern Warfare 3.
Later in the stream, after finding the phone’s battery and turning it on, Swagg received a text message that further teased slide canceling in MW3, as well as Warzone 2 once the integration takes place. It said: “You’ll be expected to move more quickly in Al Mazrah.”
Slide canceling was an extremely popular trick among high-skill players in the original Warzone, allowing them to quickly move around the map, avoid incoming fire, and outmaneuver enemies.
Since the launch of Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2, players have criticized the lack of movement options in both games, with the removal of slide canceling being repeatedly mentioned as a cause of the slower-feeling gameplay.
While not everyone was as fond of the movement mechanic as pro players, there’s no doubt that many fans will be relieved to see slide canceling make a comeback in Modern Warfare 3.
