The Haunting is fully underway in Warzone offering players plenty of Halloween-themed content to enjoy, and like with every new event, a new easter egg arrives granting the chance to secure free rewards. So, here’s how to complete The Haunting’s Chessboard Easter egg in Vondel.

The Haunting event offers players plenty of fresh content, including the addition of popular characters as Operators, a generous supply of free rewards, and more. Embracing the spooky season, the popular Resurgence map, Vondel, was transformed into a Halloween-themed variant, now known as Vondead.

In addition to the numerous free rewards, this revamped version of the map possesses a unique Chess-related easter egg for players to solve, leading to an exclusive in-game reward they can unlock.

How to unlock Warzone Vondead Checkmate reward

In order to get the Chessmate weapon charm reward, players will have to complete the Chessboard easter egg in Warzone’s Vondead, which is a pretty straightforward puzzle.

To do this, you’ll have to locate the giant chessboard near the Museum POI, where all 32 pieces are placed except for the black Knight which is missing. All you have to do is find the Knight which can be found in different places around the chessboard.

Here’s a list of every possible location where the black Knight can appear:

• Southeast of the Chessboard, adjacent to the red bus
• By the light pole beneath the front bridge of the Museum
• Behind the red canopy in the maze outside the Museum
• The verandah’s leftmost corner of the Museum

Once located, you’ll notice that its eyes will lighten up in red which means he’s now targeting you. Now, you’ll have to move around this chess piece all the way to the missing gap on the chessboard. It’s important to note that the Knight will advance quickly, and if you lose sight of it, it could stun you and reset the tracking.

While this Easter egg doesn’t have many steps, the one step it does have can be difficult for different reasons. From surviving the tracking of the piece without any enemy eliminating you first, to reaching the location of the piece before your enemies, among others.

Once you delivered the Knight piece on the missing gap, you will receive a notification letting you know that you have completed the challenge, along with an advanced UAV Killstreak, money, a Haunted Box, and a Bloodseeker Grenade. Further, this will also grant you access to the exclusive Knight weapon charm that can be used with any weapon.
