CoD’s anti-cheat now trolls hackers with “hallucinations” in Warzone 2 & MW2

A new RICOCHET anti-cheat measure has been released for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 in Season 4 which confuses hackers with “hallucinations.”

The Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 devs are ramping up their measures against hackers yet again, introducing new methods to combat those who like to bend the rules to their advantage.

Hackers ruin the experience for many, especially in Ranked Play for both battle royale and multiplayer, so players always welcome updates and improvements to the RICOCHET anti-cheat system, and the latest is a fascinating intervention.

Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 players that RICOCHET suspects of cheating or hacking will now see “decoy characters within the game that can only be detected by cheaters.”

These decoy characters are similar to Mirage from Apex Legends, as they will imitate a real player in the match to “disorientate cheaters in a variety of ways.”

It’s important to clarify that only cheaters will see these decoys and that the “hallucinations” will not “impact a legitimate player’s aim, progression, end of match stats or overall gameplay experience.”

According to the Call of Duty blog, these hallucinations will “look, move, and interact with the world like a real player,” and rather than being AI, they are instead a “clone of an active user in the match.”

The idea is that these clones will “trick a cheater into believing the character they see is a real-life player.” The hallucination can be “hidden and positioned anywhere relative to a suspicious player in the world.”

This is yet another creative implementation of RICOCHET to try and impede cheaters as best as they can, hopefully, to prevent them from wanting to continue hacking in the game.

We’ll have to see how effective this method is as time goes on, but for now, you can also check out the best LMGs to use in Modern Warfare 2 or how to get the Warzone 2 Nuke skin.
