With reports claiming that a new Call of Duty game will be coming later in 2023, a few Modern Warfare 2 players are calling for the devs to provide refunds for their purchased cosmetic items.

While Modern Warfare 2 is set to receive a ton of new content in Season 2, many players have shifted their focus on the leak suggesting that CoD 2023 is set to be a brand-new premium release.

This divided community members as it was previously reported that CoD 2023 would be a second year of Modern Warfare 2 content. Now, many fans are expressing their frustration over the cosmetics they purchased in the game.

Reddit user ‘McTheoran’ explained in a post in the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit that they purchased cosmetics in the belief that this game would remain the most relevant title for two years. However, it’s unlikely that these cosmetic items will be carried over to the new game.

The Redditor explained: “There was information circling that this would be a 2-year COD, basically no ‘premium release’ in 2023 but that was not true. It feels misleading because SO many influential leaders and streamers stated there would not be one.”

Many players in the thread agreed with the Redditor’s sentiment regarding refunds for in-game cosmetics. One user commented: “I figured I would get my money’s worth this time with the two-year cycle.”

Another one added that they purchased the $100 edition because they believed the reports about the two-year life cycle would make MW2 the “biggest Call of Duty” title. A few users pointed out that the developers never officially confirmed a two-year life cycle.

One player responded to this by stating: “The fact that they allowed everyone to run with it, and how confident the leakers seemed says to me that IW/Activision had no issue with us thinking that.”

When Warzone 2 first launched, none of the cosmetic items from the first game carried over, and this is usually the case when a new CoD title arrives. It remains to be seen how the developers will respond to these complaints.
