With Modern Warfare 3 set to be a direct follow-up to MW2 (2022), many Call of Duty fans have speculated that the game could be sold as DLC to the current game. However, Activision have put an end to the rumors by confirming that Modern Warfare 3 is a full-priced release.

Modern Warfare 3 is set to arrive later this year, marking the first time that two games from the same sub-series have been released in consecutive years.

Prior to the reveal of Modern Warfare 3, rumors and leaks began circulating that suggested Call of Duty 2023 would be a large expansion pack, bringing a second year of Modern Warfare 2 content. This has left many players confused about whether MW3 is its own game or just more Modern Warfare 2.

Now, however, Activision have looked to put an end to the debate by confirming that Modern Warfare 3 will be a $70 release when it finally hits shelves on November 10.

In a statement to CharlieIntel, the publisher said: “As stated in numerous Activision Blizzard quarterly conference calls, Modern Warfare 3 is a premium release. It will be priced accordingly at $70 USD.”

This also means that players who already own Modern Warfare 2 will not be able to upgrade to MW3 at a discounted price as many fans had wondered. Instead, they will need to purchase the sequel at full price as they would any other year.

There was further confusion when Modern Warafre 3’s Steam page listed the game as an add-on, causing players to again wonder if the sequel will act more as DLC. However, it’s listed this way based on how the Call of Duty apps will work going forward.

CoD games are being condensed into a single launcher called Call of Duty HQ, where players will be able to access each new release and Warzone in one place. With this in mind, Modern Warfare 3 is technically an add-on to the Call of Duty HQ app, despite being a $70 game.

While many players are still skeptical that Modern Warfare 3 should be a full-priced release, we’ll have to wait for November 10 to see if the sequel lives up to the price tag.
