Baldur’s Gate 3 devs recommended their Early Access community to delete their saved files to avoid synchronization problems with their latest update. So, here’s how to delete all your saved files and mods in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the biggest games coming out of what’s left of this year. With its release just around the corner, Larian Studios thanked their early access community but also advised players to delete all their save files and uninstall the game entirely.

Larian Studios’ Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, posted a warning on Twitter saying that Baldur’s Gate 3 players will have to “purge their system” from any Early Access prior to August 3, 2023. “Nuke Early Access. Purge it from your system. We must start anew (game).”, he joked on social media.

According to Baldur’s Gate 3 official account, fans should delete all their saved files and mods in order to avoid conflicts at launch. This way, Steam, and Larian Cloud could start with an ‘updated server side’ and reduce risks of file conflicts with the final version of the game.

Developers have also stated that you should remove your files in a specific way, so Larian’s Cloud sync won’t interrupt the re-installation process. Here’s how to delete your saved files to prepare for Baldur’s Gate 3 release.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How to delete your save files

Larian Studios recommended deleting files in-game, and making sure cross-sync saves are enabled. Here are the steps you should follow:

  1. Open early access Baldur’s Gate 3 with cross-sync saves enabled.
  2. Click on “Load Game” and delete manually every save you have.
  3. On your computer, go to appdata/local/Larian Studios/Baldur’s Gate 3 and delete everything in “Player Profiles” folder.
  4. Enter BG3 again, start a new game, make a manual save, and quit the game after cloud sync is completed.
  5. Start the same game again, but once you load the main menu, make sure to check that you don’t see any saved games besides the one you just made.
  6. While in the main menu, delete the saved game you just made. Disable and re-enable cross-sync saves to force it to re-sync and delete all your files.
  7. Once you’re finished, you can uninstall Baldur’s Gate 3 from your computer. Make sure that you also remove any mods if installed.
