Larian Studios revealed a “temporary” workaround for the Xbox game-breaking save bug. Here’s Baldur’s Gate 3 solution for the Save Games issue on Xbox.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released as a surprise on the Xbox Series X/S after The Game Awards 2023, and was warmly welcomed by Microsoft users who were getting anxious to discover Larian Studios’ RPG. However, the Xbox version had a game-breaking bug that deleted Save Games, and even after a firmware update, players still reported issues throughout the holidays.

Larian Studios took it to X to clarify the reason behind the bug, and described that even when players got in-game confirmation for their Save Game, the files weren’t “fully committed to disk yet.” Luckily for players, devs offered a solution to fix the save issue on Xbox.

“Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on it, but obviously during the holidays everyone is working at a lower capacity so it may take a while before a proper fix becomes available,” Larian Studios said on their X’s official account.

Devs also clarified that this issue could be fixed with Larian’s Cloud Save feature, which was originally intended to ensure cross-save for any platform. Larian Studios highlighted that they were expecting to quickly solve this problem, but in the meantime, Xbox players could ensure the integrity of their Save Games with this method.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How to fix save issue on Xbox

According to Larian Studios, this is a workaround that can be used to fix the saved issue for Xbox players:

  1. Create a Larian account at https://larian.com/account.
  2. Go to the Options menu from the Main Menu. Under Gameplay, activate cross-saves, linking your Larian and Xbox accounts.
  3. From now on, your last 5 saves will automatically be uploaded to the Larian servers. Don’t exit the game before the upload is finished. The upload is finished when the message “Syncing cloud save” is no longer visible.
  4. If the firmware bug occurs, you will need to re-activate the cross-save functionality in the options screen. This will give you access to the saved games that were successfully uploaded.

And that was everything on the workaround Larian Studios offered for the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox bug. If you want to know more about the game, you can check out how players finally killed Withers and which are the dumbest mistakes players made while traveling through Faerun.
