A new patent has revealed some major changes that EA might be planning for the Battle Pass structures of games like Apex Legends, Battlefield, and others in the near future.

Apex Legends Legacy has brought various new additions to the battle royale, including a new Battle Pass. These come with every new season, and grant players the opportunity to unlock neat premium content.

Various different video game franchises use this structure, including Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Destiny. Now, it seems that EA is planning to do something innovative that will change up the Battle Pass system.

Apex Legends Season 9 Legacy

EA unveiled their plans for a brand-new Battle Pass system in a patent application. They referred to the new innovation as the ‘Seasonal Reward Distribution System’, which will focus on a “non-linear” progression path.

The new Battle Pass will let players choose how they want to progress through a reward map that “provides a series of reward nodes connected by links, resulting in a plurality of pathways or tracks that a user can select during advancement within the video game.”

This means that you’ll get to pick between a new weapon, cosmetic or skin as your reward for reaching a new tier. The patent states that “the user can select individual reward nodes when the virtual character levels up.”

EA’s new Battle Pass system is set to include four different tiers. However, it’s important to note that this patent hasn’t been fully realized yet. Since it was filed recently, we might have to wait for sometime before it’s approved.

Rather than keeping players on a linear path with a standardized Battle Pass, these changes could provide players with more freedom than ever before in upcoming titles.

The first EA game to incorporate this new system might be in Battlefield 6. We’ll keep checking for updates regarding this, and will be sure to let you know once we learn something new.
