Respawn Entertainment previously revealed plans to introduce a “no fill” option in a future update for Apex Legends, and one developer has confirmed this by letting us know when we can expect to see this in Season 8.

Apex Legends have been asking Respawn for a Solos playlist ever since the battle royale came out back in February 2019. We did briefly get a Solos mode as an LTM, but the developers don’t intend to implement one permanently.

However, Respawn did confirm a while back that they are working on a “no fill” option for fans who want to enjoy a game without matching up with random players. Now, one of the developers has given an update on when this feature will arrive in-game.

Respawn confirm “no fill” option for Apex Legends Season 8

In Respawn’s Reddit AMA, back in November, one user asked about their plan to “allow a solo experience”. Apex Design Director Jason ‘Monsterclip’ McCord responded to these questions by assuring fans that a “no fill” option was on the table.

This would prevent players from getting paired up with other gamers when they join a match. However, this might trap you in 1v2, 1v3, or 1v4 fights if the rest of the lobby is filled with players that don’t have this option activated.

With Season 8’s Mayhem scheduled to drop on February 2, a few fans took to Twitter to ask the devs for an update on this new feature. McCord then told them that while we won’t see it as part of the Season launch, it’s definitely on the way.

“Won’t be S8 launch, but as I said in the reddit AMA it’s on the way,” wrote the developer. “In fact, we’re testing it internally and it’s working, so should be sooner rather than later.”

Based on this, we can probably expect to see it arrive about halfway through Season 8, or hopefully even sooner. This led to a few fans voicing their anticipation in the Twitter thread.

One player stated: “This is going to be amazing. For the team players so the solo sweaty players that break off and die within seconds can go and play by themselves and we’ll get team players in Trios!”

“I remember the solos were great fun to play, but most of all they were beautiful to watch.” added another fan. “I remember a solo tournament was really interesting and very adrenaline-pumping.”

While this is exciting news, a few fans still mentioned that they’re disappointed at the lack of any permanent Solo modes for the game, but Respawn has made it clear that they consider those to be “unhealthy” for the game.

This makes it unclear if we’ll ever see the introduction of those modes to the battle royale, but there might still be hope. A few recent leaks suggest that the developers might be testing out a ranked Solo mode to introduce in Season 8.

However, this hasn’t been verified by the developers so we should take this with a grain of salt. That said, it’s still good to hear that Respawn are adding a no fill feature for fans. Once there are any more updates on this, we’ll be sure to let you know.
