Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues the journey of Cal Kestis and his crew, but when does the story take place and where does it fit on the larger Star Wars timeline?

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order proved to be a smash hit when it arrived in 2019, and quickly went down as one of the best video games set in George Lucas’ universe to date.

It’s no surprise then that a sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, was greenlit and is set to be one of 2023’s biggest games. The next chapter will continue the story of Cal Kestis and his ragtag crew as they battle against the Empire.

But when is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor set compared to the original, and how does it fit into the wider universe? We’ve got all the answers here.

When does Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s story take place?

Developer Respawn Entertainment have confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s main campaign will begin five years after the events of Fallen Order, where Cal destroyed the Holocron containing names of force-sensitive children.

With hopes of rebuilding the Jedi Order gone, he’s now on the run as one of the few survivors of Order 66. Based on trailers and details shared so far, Kestis and his crew are seemingly being pursued by Emperor Palpetine’s forces, as well as an Imperial Senator on Coruscant.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor timeline explained

When it comes to the larger Star Wars canon, Jedi: Survivor is set around 10 years after Revenge of the Sith and Order 66. This places the game at a similar time to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, where the Empire is at the peak of its powers and the Rebellion is still coming together as a fully-fledged organization.

This is also around nine years before the events of Rogue One and A New Hope, meaning Darth Vader is still terrorizing the galaxy, while Luke Skywalker is a farmer on Tatooine and Yoda is exiled on Dagobah. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any friendly faces who can show up in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Based on the timeline, Ashoka Tano, Anakin Skywlaker’s former padawan, would be hiding out in the Outer Rim and could provide assistance to Cal somewhere in the story. A senator like Bail Organa would also still be active around this time, and could fit nicely into the Jedi: Survivor’s narrative.

Stars Wars properties are no strangers to cameos, so we’ll have to wait and see which big-name characters show when the game launches on April 28.
