Starfield was a commercial success on launch and even scored well with critics but opinions on the game in recent weeks have been mixed, to say the least. To clear up any uncertainty about the game’s future, Bethesda have provided a major update on what’s coming to Starfield in 2024.

Starfield had no shortage of content on release. The game launched with over 1,000 explorable planets, tons of quests, a variety of spaceships, and more, but it lacked some essential QoL features. Some of the missing features, including DLSS support and a dedicated eat button, were added through an update and there’s still more to come as confirmed by the devs.

Bethesda shared new details on what’s coming to Starfield in 2024 through a blog available on their official website. It stated that Starfield was the biggest launch in the studio’s history as the game welcomed 13 million players since September. They also added an infographic featuring community stats such as average playtime per player.

Besides all this, the devs confirmed that the next major update for Starfield will be dropping in February 2024. While they didn’t mention exactly what it will add to the game, they highlighted some of the content players can forward to.

Features coming to Starfield in the future include new ways to travel, detailed city maps, new ship decoration and ship-building options, and more. Official mod support for the game will also be launching early next year.

One of the biggest takeaways from the blog was the mention of “new Gameplay options.” These options will allow players to manually adjust the difficulty by customizing things such as carry capacity, cargo access distance, ship damage, and vendor credits. The blog even hinted at the possibility of a Fallout 4-like Survival mode by confirming that ‘new survival mechanics’ will be coming to the game.

Bethesda also provided an update on the Shattered Space DLC and confirmed that it will arrive with “new story content, new locations, new gear, and much more.”

The devs haven’t yet confirmed when all of these features will be added to the game. Although, we’ll likely hear more on the major update as February draws closer. Until then, check out our picks for the best weapons and best ships in Starfield.
