The developers of the popular battle royale title PUBG are working on a brand-new extraction-based shooter to rival Escape from Tarkov and Warzone 2’s DMZ mode.

PUBG took the gaming community by storm back in 2017 with the help of its authentic graphics and battle royale format. While its rise was hindered by rivals like Warzone and Apex Legends, it continues to be a popular title today.

Now, the developers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds have set their sights on a brand-new project that revolves around extraction, similar to Warzone 2’s DMZ mode and Escape from Tarkov.

As reported by The Loadout, an earnings report from publisher Krafton confirms that PUBG Studios will be developing a new project under the codename ‘Project Black Budget’ and this will be focused on extraction-based gameplay.

In a November 2022 earnings report, Krafton described this title as a “PvPvE looter shooter.” Now, the new report highlights the publisher’s goal to “popularise the extraction shooter genre.”

The new project from PUBG studios could rival Warzone 2’s DMZ mode.

The report makes it clear that this new title will be based on the PUBG experience and that they’re considering releasing it on PC, mobile, and consoles. At the time of writing, not much else has been revealed about it.

There is no concept art, but the logo for PUBG Studios is present where they mention Project Black Budget. So, the PUBG developers will be working on it and will most likely try to rival Tarkov and DMZ.

Krafton promises that players will experience “an ever-changing PvPvE open-world and satisfying gunplay that delivers unpredictable and exciting experiences.” We’ll be sure to update this piece as more information about this title becomes available.
