Pokemon Legends Z-A was just announced, but trainers all around the world are already making theories and looking for easter eggs to figure out what starters will headline the new title.

While fans were keeping expectations low for Pokemon Presents, The Pokemon Company surprised them by announcing a brand-new game titled Pokemon Legends Z-A on Pokemon Day 2024. The follow-up to Legends Arceus will take trainers back to the Kalos region to have a different kind of adventure set entirely in Lumiose City.

With Mega Evolutions confirmed to make a return, players are wondering what new Megas they’ll be able to get. However, others are starting to piece together easter eggs, details, and other information to figure out what starters the game will feature. While Pokemon Legends: Arceus had Cyndaquil, Oshawott, and Rowlet as starters, it gave them new regional final evolutions.

Players believe Legends ZA will also feature well-known starters from different regions and generations to give them new traits and fresh evolutions. Reddit user ‘AltitudeTheLatias’ posted their theory by saying, “I think the Starters will be Torchic, Snivy and Piplup, based on their connections to France and past trailers depicting them with the Legends Arceus Starters.”

OP shared screenshots of Torchic, Snivy, and Piplup being paired with Legends Arceus starters in official Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Indigo Disk trailers, which is the latest title in the franchise. However, the user also explained connections to France’s history, considering Kalos is based in France and Lumiose City is Paris’ counterpart in the Pokemon universe.

Not all fans thought that OP’s predictions were accurate, though. With Mega Evolutions back, trainers believe devs will take the opportunity to debut brand-new Mega Pokemon instead of recycling existing ones. “The only thing I question about this is that Mega-Blaziken exists, and since they have so few existing Megas I’d think they want to bring them all back and not replace one with a variant,” one user explained.

On the other hand, some trainers also mentioned Charizard has two different Mega Evolutions, so Blaziken could get a new one as well on Pokemon Legends Z-A. Since there aren’t many details about the upcoming game, it’s yet unknown if the starters will get new regional forms or evolutions.

Other Pokemon fans shared their own theories about the upcoming starters: “I think we’re looking at some combo of Gen 2, 5 (because 4 got so much coverage), and 7 for starters. Perhaps Totodile, Snivy, Litten for example. Could also see a Gen 8 mon being included given G-Max isn’t coming back.”

One user commented, “I’m personally hoping for Chikorita,” while another added, “My guess would be rather Scorbunny because France loves soccer and its one of the only 2 fire starters that aren’t too new (Fuecoco), have a mega already (Charmander, Torchic) or share a region with snivy/piplup (Chimchar, Tepig).” Additionally, Litten is another starter Pokemon in players’ minds for Legends ZA.

We might have to wait long before The Pokemon Company confirms the starters for their next game. We’ll make sure to keep you updated with the latest news on the upcoming title.
