The Pokemon Go 8th Anniversary event is coming, and here’s all you need to know about the dates and the opportunity to catch a Shiny Celebi.

Pokemon Go will celebrate another successful year with the 8th Anniversary Party event, which spotlights two important Pokemon that every trainer wants for their collection. The event marks the return of Shiny Meltan and Shiny Celebii in a new Masterwork Research.

Here’s all you need to know about the Pokemon Go 8th Anniversary Party event, including start and end dates, debuts, bonuses, and more information.

Pokemon Go 8th Anniversary Party event dates

The Pokemon Go 8th Anniversary Party event will run from June 28, at 10 AM local time, to July 3, 2024, at 8 PM local time.

Shiny Meltan boost & costumed Pokemon debuts

When you use the Mystery Box during the Pokemon Go 8th Anniversary Party you might encounter Shiny Meltan, and additionally, the Mystery Box cooldown will be reduced.

The following costumed Pokemon will debut during the event:

  • Grimer wearing a party hat*
  • Muk wearing a party hat*

Pokemon marked with a (*) can be found as shiny.

8th Anniversary Party event bonuses

The following bonuses will be active during the Pokemon Go 8th Anniversary Party event:

  • Increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
  • Increased chance to get Lucky Pokemon in trades.
  • Friendship levels will increase faster than normal through opening Gifts, trading Pokemon, or battling together in raids, Gyms, or Trainer Battles!
  • Chance of finding 8 or 88+ Gimmighoul Coins when you spin a PokeStop with a Golden Lure Module active.

New Avatar items will be available in the store to celebrate the 8th anniversary.

Additionally, the event will host special bonuses on certain days:

  • From June 28 at 10 AM to June 29 at 11:59 PM local time: 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed in an Incubator on these days.
  • From June 30 at 12 AM to July 1 at 11:59 PM local time: 2× XP for catching Pokemon.
  • From July 2 at 12 AM to July 3 at 8 PM local time: 2× Stardust for catching Pokemon.

  • Squirtle wearing a party hat*

  • Alolan Grimer*

Additionally, during the following dates, these Pokemon will appear more frequently:

Timed Research & Celebi Masterwork Research

During the Pokemon Go 8th Anniversary Party event, a new Timed Research will be available for all players, and it will award Stardust, XP, and encounters with event-themed Pokemon.

A Special Timed Research will be available in the game shop for $2, or the equivalent in your local currency, that will unlock the following rewards:

  • 1 Incubator
  • 1 Super Incubator
  • 1 Premium Battle Pass
  • 1 Lucky Egg
  • 1 Rocket Radar
  • 1 Star Piece
  • 1 Incense
  • 1 Poffin
  • 88,888 XP
  • An encounter with Meltan
Shiny Celebi in Pokemon Go
Shiny Celebi will return to Pokemon Go in a new Masterwork Research.

Finally, the highly requested Mythical Pokemon Celebi will be coming back in a Masterwork Research story named Whispers in the Woods, which leads to an encounter with Shiny Celebi, alongside other rewards like boosted consumable effects.

Players can gain access to this Research by purchasing it for $5 or the equivalent pricing in your local currencies.
