Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s latest regional tournament saw Ogerpon, the new Pokemon from The Teal Mask DLC, get dethroned by new counters. It slips out of the top 12 list and new teams are presented as competitive options.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s competitive scene opened up new options for players with the introduction of the new Paradox Pokemon. At first, the new Paradox and Legendaries were banned but quickly stepped into the fray with some extra bans and updates that came over time.

The game’s new Pokemon, introduced in The Teal Mask DLC, brought some serious power to the competition. The shy mask-wearing creature with multiple forms brought some ridiculous stats to back up a hefty signature move called Ivy Cudgel.

Alongside this, some good options with the additions of new creatures from past games came back to fill the teams, and players have found a way to counter Ogerpon’s reign.

Ogerpon is out of the top 12 ranking after Toronto’s Pokemon Scarlet and Violet regional tournament

On October 29, the second day of the 2024 Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Toronto Regional Championship took place in Canada. The winning team not only crushed Ogerpon but was in fact exactly the same winning team as last week’s tournament winner in France.

Winner ChuppaVGC‘s team consisted of Chien-Pao, Rillaboom, Hisuian Arcanine, Urshifu Rapid Strike, Tornadus Incarnate, and Flutter Mane. This mix managed to overcome the reign of Ogerpon being one of the most-used Pokemon in the last series.

This is almost the same team that winner Simone Sanvito used to storm last week’s 2024 Pokemon Lille Regional Championships in France, with a few small changes on tera types and moves.

While Ogerpon’s Hearthflame and Wellspring forms have been consistently in the top rankings, it seems excitement for the new Pokemon is waning, alongside a growing list of counter-matches thanks to trainers adapting to new creatures joining the game.
