GTA 6 trailer breaks record for most viewed video game reveal of all time

Less than 24 hours have passed since the release of the GTA 6 trailer, and yet the video is already breaking YouTube records. Find out which other records it broke and what milestone it is aiming for now.

December 4, 2023, will be remembered by many fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, as well as by Rockstar’s developers. Not only because it was the date of the long-awaited release of the GTA 6 trailer, but also because that video broke important records.

Rockstar had to emergency-release the GTA 6 trailer ahead of schedule due a to leak. However, this was no reason for GTA 6‘s video not to break many records on YouTube. According to the official Guinness World Records X account, the GTA 6 trailer obtained more views in the first 24 hours than any other video game reveal.

At the time of writing this article, the video has already surpassed 84 million views and 8.4 million likes, also making it the most liked trailer of all time. This previous record was held by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ with just half the number of likes (4.1 million). In terms of video game trailers, the previous record-holder was DICE for ‘Battlefield 1 Official Trailer’ with 2.6 million likes.

However, that’s not all, because GTA 6 only needs 13 hours to become the most-viewed non-musical video on YouTube in the first 24 hours. The record Rockstar broke was held by MrBeast’s video ‘$1 vs $100,000,000’ with 59.4 million views.

Now Rockstar and GTA 6 fans only have the most viewed video on YouTube record left to break, but it’s highly challenging. They would need to surpass the 108 million views that the song ‘Butter’ by the Korean boyband BTS achieved in the first 24 hours from its release in 2021. This last challenge seems quite difficult; however, the previous records also seemed unbreakable.

Rockstar’s work over all these years is starting to pay off with numbers, records, and a community amazed by this first look at GTA 6, also eagerly awaiting future trailers and information.
