Monster Hunter Wilds is Capcom’s next installment for the legendary franchise, but will the new title be open world? Here’s everything we know so far about it.

Monster Hunter is one of Capcom’s most popular franchises, with players eagerly awaiting the next installment which was announced at 2023’s The Game Awards, Monster Hunter Wilds.

The game follows up on Monster Hunter World and Rise, two of the series’ most popular releases, which both offer unique gameplay mechanics with the fan-favorite MH combat that those familiar with the franchise both know and love.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to take Capcom’s RPG to the next level, and while we don’t yet know much about the title, many are speculating that it could be the first ever open world Monster Hunter game.

So, with that said, here’s everything we know so far about whether or not Monster Hunter Wilds will be open world.

Is Monster Hunter Wilds going to be open world?

There has been no official confirmation regarding the map for Monster Hunter Wilds, so we don’t know whether the map will be open world or not.

That said, many believe that the reveal trailer is giving the impression that Monster Hunter Wilds will feature an open world map. This is mainly because of the last shot in the trailer, which sees the Hunter overlooking a vast desert, which looks to be explorable.

It’s hard to tell from one trailer, so take the speculation with a pinch of salt, but players are certainly open to the idea of the game being open-world. On the Steam forums, one player said, “If done well I can actually see it as some interesting/fun game, as long as we can build outposts and fast travel to them to get to certain areas.”

Another player said, “Elden Ring showed action adventures can successfully transition from smaller areas/maps to open world. Idk why MH shouldn’t be able to achieve this.”

We’ll have to wait and see how the devs have decided to design the world in Monster Hunter Wilds, and whether it will follow the classic format or move to a more open world feel.

Once we have more information we’ll be sure to update this piece so stay tuned. For now, be sure to check out:
