Pirate Sword fight in Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves is best played with good mates alongside, but what if you want to sail alone? Here are all the details on playing Sea of Thieves alone.

Sea of Thieves takes place in a shared open world, so you’ll see plenty of players sailing about, and everything is no holds barred. Many will be teaming up in co-op, but what if you’re alone?

Here’s whether you can hold your own solo in Sea of Thieves.

Can you play Sea of Thieves solo?

Yes, you can play Sea of Thieves solo, but it won’t be easy. Many consider playing the game solo to be the hard mode.

That’s because you’ll be on your own, handling your sloop all by yourself, and you’ll be pitted against other players who are playing in a group. In this case, it is indeed the more the merrier, but solo in Sea of Thieves is still absolutely manageable.

If you want a more peaceful sea, we recommend tuning into ‘Safer Seas’ mode. In Safer Sea mode, you’ll be the only one on the server, with no other random players, and can also be played in co-op with your mates. The only catch is that you get fewer rewards than in the regular High Seas mode, but if all you want is a relaxed sailing, it is definitely worth a shot.

That’s everything about playing Sea of Thieves solo. If you’re interested in other similar pirate games, check out some of our Skull and Bones guides:
