After months of waiting, FIFA 23 has finally been revealed by EA Sports and we’ve got our first look at the faces of this year’s Ultimate Edition.

The build-up to FIFA 23 has finally begun after EA officially announced the game on July 18, 2022. Expectations for this year’s entry are higher than ever, as it’s the last game before the series is rebranded as EA Sports FC.

While there are likely plenty of major announcements to come surrounding FIFA 23’s biggest modes, such as Career Mode and Ultimate Team. EA have started by simply showing off the game’s cover stars, including a fresh face on the box art.

The cover stars for the FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition have been announced as Kylian Mbappe from the men’s game, and Sam Kerr from women’s football.

This marks Mbappe’s third successive year as the FIFA cover star, after the PSG striker replaced the likes of Eden Hazard and Virgil Van Dijk to become the face of the series back in FIFA 21.

Even more significant is the appearance of Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, who becomes the first-ever female player to be a FIFA cover star as EA strive to make FIFA 23 the most inclusive game in the franchise to date.

The Australian has established herself as one of the most formidable strikers in world football in recent years and was one of the top-rated players in FIFA 22. So, it’s no surprise to see her earn a spot on the Ultimate Edition cover.

Sadly, the announcement didn’t go as far as to reveal the official release date, and we’re still waiting for our first look at the standard edition covers.

It also didn’t give us too much to go on in terms of gameplay innovations or new features, but it lets fans know that the FIFA 23 hype train is moving at long last.

We’ll be sure to update this story as soon as the release date and standard edition covers are revealed.
