Diablo 4 players baffled by “weird” mount keybind change in Season 3

Following the Diablo 4 Season 3 update, console players discovered the controller keybind for the mount abilities had changed. Despite being mentioned in the patch notes, this change has left players confused.

In Diablo 4, mounts get three basic abilities. Of the three, only one can be used in open-world combat. Needless to say, these abilities have keybinds as well. However, after the Diablo 4 Season 3 update went live, console players discovered that the keybinds for these mount abilities had changed.

Player ‘Ethanmonty’ took to Reddit to express their confusion about the change. They further stated that they had to go into the settings menu to reconfigure their controller keybinds.

Another player commented on the post and said, “I thought it was just me! I kept hitting right trigger and wondered why I wasn’t accelerating.” As noted by another Redditor, this change isn’t restricted to Xbox controllers, as it also translates to PlayStation controllers as well.

Blizzard mentioned this controller keybind change in the Diablo 4 Season 3 patch notes because they wanted it to be more intuitive. However, player ‘He_beard’ wondered, “It’s intuitive for devs spamming basic skills I guess?”

Redditor ‘Rhayve’ argued and said, “It’s very likely targeted at new players because it makes more sense given the standard button layout. And they won’t have to deal with muscle memory issues.”

Another player supported this Diablo 4 controller keybind change and said, “It’s because B is evade which is a fast traversal- so like dash? Well, it made more sense when we had bats.” For context, bats were one of the many powers that players could wield during the Season of Blood.

Players are clearly confused with this change, and although it was meant to be intuitive, it seems many are already reverting to the old system. Diablo 4 Season 3 is still fresh, so it will be interesting to see what changes Blizzard incorporates as the season progresses.
