Following the release of Blizzard’s Diablo 4, fans are eagerly anticipating a return to the grim, monster-infested world of Sanctuary. Given the popularity of additional content, many are wondering if this latest chapter in the iconic series will feature DLC.

The mention of downloadable content (DLC) has been a hot topic in the video game industry for years now. In the case of Diablo 4, fans are curious to see how Blizzard will build on over two decades of lore and legend that has only deepened in intensity.

Sanctuary, the setting of Diablo, is once again threatened by a legion of horrifying demons. Anticipation is running high as fans eagerly await a new chapter of a tumultuous storyline in the campaign. Yet, speculation about post-release content for Diablo 4 is already stirring up a conversation.

Here’s what you need to know about Diablo 4 DLC.

Will Diablo 4 feature DLC?

It seems Diablo 4 will receive post-launch support in the form of paid DLC. The Diablo franchise has a history of delivering story-expanding, paid Expansion Packs that introduce new character classes.

Thanks to a recent interview between Forbes and Diablo 4’s General Manager Rod Fergusson and Associate Game Director Joseph Piepiora, players can expect plenty of Diablo 4 DLC alongside new seasonal content with future updates.

They stated that the title’s seasonal content would not impact the main narrative, reserving such developments for paid expansions.

Intriguingly, the developers have also hinted at “new story content every three months.” This suggests that the saga of Diablo 4 might evolve concurrently with both the free and premium Battle Passes. It’s conceivable that seasonal updates could bring about minor narrative advancements, while major plot developments could be reserved for larger DLC packs or expansions.

There’s currently no release information for Diablo 4 DLC.

Veteran players of Diablo 3 will find this model familiar. Diablo 3, post-release, introduced Reaper of Souls, a storyline-advancing expansion. Subsequent releases introduced the Crusader and Necromancer character classes.

Given that Diablo 4’s narrative concludes with two dramatic, game-altering cliffhangers, it seems Blizzard is poised to continue the story with seasonal arcs and robust story DLC in one form or another.
