Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC is out and it has added a ton of quality-of-life features to the game including revamped cyberware. But does it add the side effect of having too much of it? Here’s what you need to know about cyberpsychosis in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty.

Although Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC is the game’s only expansion pack, it adds much-needed changes including new weapons, a skill tree overhaul, police systems, a new area called Dogtown, and more.

One of the most heavily requested features by players is cyberpsychosis which acts as a side effect of using too much cyberware. The feature first debuted in the Cyberpunk Edgerunners series on Netflix and players have taken a liking to it ever since.

Considering its substantial file size, does the new Phantom Liberty update add cyberpsychosis to Cyberpunk 2077? Here’s all you need to know about it.

What is Cyberpsychosis in Cyberpunk?

In Cyberpunk, cyberpsychosis is a mental disorder that affects people who have too much cyberware implanted in their bodies. It is caused by the conflict between the human and the machine parts of a person. The more cyberware a person has, the more they lose touch with their emotions, feelings, and empathy.

They become obsessed with their cyberware and see others as inferior or hostile and may also suffer from hallucinations, paranoia, aggression, and violence. They are known as cyberpsychos, and they are dangerous to themselves and others.

Cyberpsychosis in Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty explained

Although Cyberpsychosis cannot be experienced in Cyberpunk 2077, the Phantom Liberty DLC adds cyberpsychosis-like features to the game. Talking to VGC, creative director Pavel Sasko mentioned that the cyberware system has been overhauled to introduce a capacity limit overloading which can cause certain stats debuffs.

“It’s all about this balance between risk and reward,” Sasko said. “We are not going as far as the introduction of cyberpsychosis though, have that in mind.”

Cyberpsychosis is still a part of the game world and the lore. The player can encounter and fight various cyberpsychos across Night City, who are usually driven mad by their cyberware or by some traumatic event.

How to add cyberpsychosis in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

If you want to experience cyberpsychosis in its entirety in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, you can use the Wannabe Edgerunners mod by djkovrik. The mod adds a basic humanity system to the game which includes penalties such as cyberpsychosis for overusing cyberware.

Do note that the mod might not be compatible with the 2.0 game update and thus may not work as intended. We suggest you wait until the developer updates the mod and then use it.
