Dogtown in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

The new area introduced by Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty is Dogtown, a city inside Night City, a perilous, lawless underground with creepy “dark zone” vibes. The new area comes with its own resident faction and is home to the new questline, so here’s what you need to know before jumping in.

Despite the shaky launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has finally become the game that CD Projekt Red fans around the world wanted it to be. Several updates fixed the RPG in the past three years, and on top of it, the Phantom Liberty DLC has significantly tweaked the skill tree and the police system.

However, the biggest addition to Cyberpunk 2077 has been Dogtown, the new area in Night City where you’ll complete the Phantom Liberty questline. It is arguably the most dangerous area in the game and has a wide range of new challenges for players to take on.

On that note, here’s everything you need to know about Dogtown in Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty: Dogtown explained

Dogtown in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty is a walled-off area located within the Pacifica district.

It falls out of the jurisdiction of the NCPD and, as a result, is possibly the most dangerous area in Night City. Its residents include criminals, gang members, and smugglers, lending to a general sense of lawlessness presiding over Dogtown.

That’s not to say that the area is devoid of rules, as Dogtown is governed by Kurt Hansen through his Barghest militia. Hansen is a former NUSA colonel who turned his back on the force by seizing a portion of Pacifica and ignoring orders. He also established a black market in the area, which quickly turned into a profitable business.

The Black Market is now the heart of Dogtown. Some of the rarest weapons and cyberware Night City has to offer are available in the market. When conceptualizing and creating Dogtown, CD Projekt Red drew inspiration from South American drug lords. More specifically, they modeled the area’s internal dynamics by taking note of how drug cartels interact and use their local communities.
