Warzone players gutted as Crossbow is “useless” again after nerf

The Warzone June 11 update introduced a major nerf to the Crossbow that had been able to one-shot since Season 4 started, but players are sad to see the weapon return to normal.

Warzone Season 4 introduced plenty of weapon balancing changes across the board, mixing up the meta and forcing players to adapt. But one of the buffs that didn’t feature in the patch notes gave the Crossbow one-shot potential when using explosive ammo.

This was quickly rectified a week later in the June 11 update, which nerfed the damage of the Blastcap 20″ Bolts to ensure it would once again take at least two shots to knock an enemy.

However, players haven’t responded well to the change, as many feel that the Crossbow is back to being virtually unusable like it was before Season 4. Reddit user ‘fatesoffspring’ shared a post complaining that the “Crossbow [is] back to being useless.”

“My favorite weapon in CoD is the Crossbow since BO1, and I loved how it played in Warzone 1 before they nerfed it,” said the OP. “Now they briefly brought it back to how it was, and they already got rid of it. Why? I barely ran into anyone using it but they will let the Kar run around getting used by 85% of the lobby? It’s ridiculous.”

They weren’t alone either, as ‘SINISTERZL1’ started another thread where they mentioned they were gutted about the nerf too.

Both posts received plenty of replies from fellow Warzone players, calling out the decision to take one-shot capabilities away from the Crossbow and arguing that it makes the game’s meta less interesting.

“It’s a weapon that requires skill, high risk, and high reward. But it doesn’t work with aim assist at mid-long range, so they don’t want that,” said one reply, before another added: “They suck so bad with variety. Clearly they only want one kind of playstyle.”

Others claimed they were “devastated” by the change and said that one-shotting enemies with explosive bolts was the most fun they’d had in Warzone for a while, as it was effective without being too overpowered.

However, some pointed out that since the original buff wasn’t mentioned as part of the patch notes, it may have been unintentional so the nerf was inevitable.

The Warzone Season 4 Reloaded update is around the content, so we’ll have to wait and see if the devs adjust the Crossbow any further, or if they tweak the Kar98k that has dominated matches since it arrived.
