Activision introduced Proximity Chat to spice up the Call of Duty Battle Royale genre as it allows you to communicate with nearby players, whether they are your allies or enemies. Here’s how to use Proximity Chat in Season 5 of Warzone 2 and DMZ.

Warzone 2 launched its Season 1 on November 16 with a lot of new content that fans had never seen before. Some of the highlights were the Al Mazrah map and the DMZ mode, which added more variety and challenge to the game.

Season 5 has arrived with even more content to enjoy, such as new operators and weapons. One of the features that makes Warzone 2 stand out from other games is Proximity Chat, which has gained a lot of popularity among players.

Proximity Chat allows you to talk to other players who are near you in the game, whether they are your friends or foes. You can use it to trash talk, negotiate, or cooperate with them. So, if you are interested in Proximity Chat, here’s our guide on the feature and how it works in Warzone 2 Season 5.

How to use Proximity Chat in Warzone 2 Season 5

Proximity Chat in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is the default setting for anyone using a microphone in the game’s chat. This means that your microphone is open to the lobby, more specifically, anyone within your proximity/range.

This is different from the main voice chat that is always available with your teammates. With Proximity Chat enabled you will be able to hear the mic chatter of any nearby players and vice versa – allowing for ambushes and heat-of-the-moment planning or panic.

How to turn off Proximity Chat in Warzone 2

If you don’t want your microphone to be open to nearby players and vice versa then you can disable Proximity Chat by going to the Warzone 2 Audio settings.

Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Head over to Audio in the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to the Voice Chat heading.
  3. Find the Proximity Chat setting and turn it off.
  4. Now, you will no longer be able to hear close-by enemies in Warzone 2 and they will no longer be able to hear you.

Proximity Chat in Warzone 2 Ranked Play explained

Proximity Chat is disabled in Warzone 2 Ranked Play. While Proximity Chat was available with the launch of Warzone 2 Ranked Play, the devs felt that the feature was not suitable for the competitive mode.

After some deliberation, the devs decided to disable Proximity Chat in Warzone 2 Ranked Play on May 22. We’ll keep you posted if the feature returns to Ranked Play.

Does Modern Warfare 2 have Proximity Chat?

Modern Warfare 2 does not have Proximity Chat and this feature is being reserved for Warzone 2 only.

As with all things, if it proves to be successful in Warzone 2 and fans demand it enough then the devs may opt to implement it at some point in MW2’s future, or even in 2023’s Modern Warfare 3.
