Baldur’s Gate 3 has numerous hidden rewards that often come in the form of curious quests. The “Beating Oliver at Hide and Seek” quest is one of those short missions that can be tricky to solve. However, it will reward players with a unique prize that can’t be found in any other place in Faerun.

Here’s everything you need to know in order to beat Oliver at Hide and Seek in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Where to find Oliver

As players are approaching the end of Act 1 in Baldur’s Gate 3, they’ll have to explore the Ruined Battlefield location. There they’ll find Oliver, a tiefling child infected with the shadow curse who lives in the “House with Flowers.”

Once you start talking to Oliver, he’ll ask you to play “Hide and Seek” in exchange for a powerful magic item. If players refuse to play with him, he’ll get angry and have his family attack.

After accepting to play Hide and Seek with Oliver in Baldur’s Gate 3, he’ll turn invisible and hide behind the cart in front of the house. You’ll be able to track him down while watching the word “Invisible” that will follow him as he hides.

After Oliver finishes hiding, players will have to look around the cart and pass a Perception check to spot Oliver. Once found, the young tiefling will be angry to have been beaten so easily, and he’ll challenge you to play once again. If you refuse, his family will attack your party, but if you accept to play with him again, he’ll up the stakes and ask you not only to find him but to also avoid his family members.

You’ll have to beat Oliver twice for him to give you your reward.

In this round, you’ll be in the turn-based mode where you’ll be able to see what the members of his family are doing. Make sure that your party members stay in the house crouched and hiding in a corner to avoid being detected.

Choose one character to find Oliver with, and look for him in the same spot where you first met him. You’ll be able to see how Oliver moves to different spots in every round, but will eventually come to that spot again.

If you put your character there in Hide mode, you’ll get to catch Oliver without him escaping. The boy will be angry to have been found again, but he’ll give you the prize he promised.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Oliver Hide and Seek reward

Once you’ve beaten Oliver twice in Baldur’s Gate 3, he’ll give you the Ring of Shadows. This Uncommon item will let players cast the “Pass Without Trace” spell once per day.

If players can’t beat Oliver at Hide and Seek but beat his family in a fight, he’ll also give you this item as a reward for coming in second place.
