Starfield: Who should you blame for the virus in Absolute Power?

Stephanie Zucarelli
Starfield Benjamin Bayu

The Absolute Power mission in Starfield requires you to make a tough choice by blaming someone for the virus. Here’s whether you should blame Estelle, Breyson Bay, or yourself for the virus in Starfield and the consequences of each choice.

Although Starfield doesn’t feature multiple endings like Baldur’s Gate 3, you can make several choices throughout the campaign that can greatly impact the overall experience. This also makes the game repayable and, with the New Game Plus mode, you can restart your journey with the desired buffs.

One such mission is Absolute Power, in which you deal with Estelle and Breyson Bayu and the quest ends after you blame the NPCs or yourself for the virus.

If you’re struggling to make the right choice, here’s who you should blame for the virus in Starfield.

Should you blame Estelle for the virus in Starfield?

In Starfield, if you choose to tell Benjamin Bayu that Estelle Vincent is the owner of the virus, he’ll say he will “deal with” her and allow you to leave without any consequences. Breyson Bayu will also get to live, and if you’re with a companion, they will approve of you telling the truth.

Estelle Vincent of Starfield
Estelle Vincent will provide you with the virus you need to hack into the Generdyne network.

On the other hand, the Crimson Fleet won’t be happy you blamed Estelle since this will mean you got one of their key members killed.

Should you blame Breyson Bayu for the virus in Starfield?

If you reveal to Benjamin Bayu that the responsible for the virus in Starfield was his brother, he’ll tell you that he will promptly kill him. He’ll also let you leave freely, although your companion will dislike this option and will decrease your affinity with them.

Breyson Bayu from Starfield
Breyson will easily hand you over his passkey for you to upload the virus.

Even if Estelle gets to live, she’ll cut ties with the Crimson Fleet unless you pay her for the loss of her virus.

Should you take the blame for the virus in Starfield?

If you choose to blame yourself for the virus in Starfield, Benjamin Bayu will put a bounty on your head and force you to leave the city. He will also plant evidence to link you to a murder in Neon, which will lead Bounty Hunters to track you down until you clear your name.

If you’re with a companion, they will support you and your affinity with them will increase. Estelle will also cut ties with the Crimson Fleet unless players pay her for the loss of the virus.

After making your decision, the “Absolute Power” quest will be completed. If you want to know more about Starfield, you can check these guides below:
