Following the release of Starfield, players discovered that Bethesda paid tribute to a long-time fan of their games who unfortunately passed away after battling lung cancer prior to launch.

Starfield, Bethesda’s expansive open-world space-based game, offers a massive amount of content and diverse features that empower players to personalize their characters and spacecraft.

It also boasts an extensive array of thousands of planets to explore, all interwoven with an engaging main storyline for a truly immersive experience.

Starfield includes Bethesda fan-written note within the game

Following Starfield’s release, players discovered that Bethesda decided to include a heartwarming fan-written note within the game from Alex Hay, a dedicated long-time fan of their games, who sadly passed away after battling lung cancer before launch.

Found on the Eye when you enter on the right side, players can discover a note from Alex Hay himself in the game: “To all my friends and fellow explorers. I’m always with you, out in the starfield. Love always, Alex Hay.”

Prior to release, Alex Hay lamented the game’s delay in a Reddit post sharing that due to his ongoing battle with lung cancer, he wouldn’t be able to play the game on its release, despite closely “following the project for years.”

A few weeks later, a friend updated the thread confirming the unfortunate passing of Alex. He revealed that Alex was a huge Bethesda fan who “put tens of thousands of hours” into various of the company’s popular titles.

Under the X post, numerous fans have shared heartfelt messages remembering Alex, with some expressing sentiments like “A tribute that will endure forever. Rest in peace, Alex.” One user even remarked, “I’ve decided to name my second in-game character after Alex Hay.”

Another player chimed in saying “The first ship I’m able to build will bear his name,” honoring Alex’s enduring legacy within the beloved Bethesda title.
