Starfield is full of quests with choices that impact not only your progress but the lives of major characters around you. One such quest is literally called High Price to Pay, and here’s an explanation of the different choices you can make and their impact on your Starfield companions.

High Price To Pay commences just after the midway point in Starfield’s main questline. After delivering the artifact recovered from Scow, Noel receives a warning from Vladimir. He states that the Starborn have assaulted The Eye, and now they’re on the way to The Lodge. This sets up a high-stakes quest, demanding players to choose one of two routes.

Regardless of the choice you opt for in the High Price To Pay quest in Starfield, one of the four romanceable companions will die. The choices offered to players are:

Rush to The Eye to check on your friends.
Stay at the Lodge and protect the artifacts.

The companion who dies relies entirely on the player’s affinity with them. Their location also depends on this system, meaning players will have different companions on The Eye or at the Lodge based on their relationship with them.

The companion who accompanies you to Scow’s ship will most likely be stationed at the Lodge, while the companion you have the highest affinity with will be on The Eye. To protect your favorite companion, it’s best to head to their location during the quest.
