Wigglytuff is a Pokemon with some surprising tricks up its sleeve, that can help you win battles. So, here are the weaknesses, resistances, strengths, and best moves to make the most of this Gen 1 classic.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has redefined the meta with the introduction of Paradox Pokemon but some fan favorites from previous Gens still hold their ground, including the adorable Wigglytuff.

This Normal/Fairy-type Pokemon from Gen 1 may not look formidable, but knowing how to use it in combat can throw your opponents’ strategies out of the window!

To help you ace Wigglytuff in Pokemon battles, here’s all about its weaknesses, resistances, strengths, and recommended moveset.

Wigglytuff weaknesses explained in Pokemon

Wigglytuff is only weak to Poison and Steel-type attacks in Pokemon.

While it has a jaw-dropping HP of 140, its defensive stats are quite low, with Defense being 45 and Special Defense being 50. So, it can handle Bullet Punch from Metagross but would struggle against Scizor with the Technician ability.

One quick strategy I’ve often used to help Wigglytuff negate both these weaknesses is to Terastallize it to Steel Tera Type, which gives it immunity to Poison-type attacks and resistance to Steel-type attacks.

Wigglytuff resistances explained in Pokemon

Wigglytuff resists Bug and Dark-type attacks and is immune to Dragon and Ghost-type attacks in Pokemon.

While its resistances are neat, its two immunities are its greatest USP. Dragon and Ghost types are some of the deadliest offensive threats, so shrugging off their attacks like they’re nothing is a boon.

In my experience, I’ve often encountered opposing Dragon or Ghost Pokemon using a Held Item like Choice Scarf or Choice Specs, but when their STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) moves had no effect on Wigglytuff, they were forced to switch out as they were locked to one move. This proved to be the turning point in many battles, so you should absolutely reserve Wigglytuff dor such matchups!

Wigglytuff strengths explained in Pokemon

Wigglytuff does super-effective damage to Dark, Dragon, and Fighting-type Pokemon with its STAB Fairy-type moves. Keep in mind that Normal-type moves don’t get any super-effective damage.

While its offenses aren’t too high, it works brilliantly as a check for Dragon Pokemon, particularly the dangerous Dragapult and Giratina, as Wigglytuff is immune to their STAB attacks. But, there’s a unique strategy to increase its 85 Special Attack stat and turn it into an offensive monster.

Its ability, Competitive, raises its Special Attack stats by two stages when an opponent or Hazard lowers any of its stats. This makes Wigglytuff the perfect Pokemon against Salamence and Gyarados with Intimidate or if your side of the battlefield has Sticky Web.

Best Wigglytuff moves in Pokemon

The best moves for Wiggluytuff in Pokemon are Alluring Voice, Chilling Water, Ice Beam, and Perish Song.

  • Alluring Voice is an excellent Fairy-type move that has a neat 80 base power and also confuses targets that had their stats raised in this turn. This amazing move has helped me halt OP threats that used Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, or Calm Mind, preventing them from sweeping the battle.
  • Chilling Water deals damage and is useful against Physical attackers as it is guaranteed to reduce the opponent’s Attack by one stage.
  • Ice Beam is great against Dragon-types 4x weak to Ice-type attacks, such as Dragonite, Garchomp, Salamence, and Rayquaza.
  • Perish Song is a unique move that makes opponents on the battlefield faint in three turns. I’ve used this move to eliminate the most OP Legendaries or at least, made them switch out their strongest Pokemon.
