Niantic presented the new Season of Pokemon Go, Adventures Abound, and fans were overwhelmed by the amount of content that’s coming with the launch of the Ultra Unlocks feature and the Paldean Adventures event. Now, some fans have noticed something amiss with the promotional art used for the announcements.

On the official Pokemon Go site, a giant banner featuring Sprigatito in the middle of a neon city-like background is the main cause of unrest among fans.

Some players have spotted certain patterns that are telltale signs of AI-generated art, and they showcased the evidence on X.

X user Lewchube exposed the promo images, and the community quickly slammed Niantic, calling it “a disappointment” and “bad looking.” As you can see in the images, the background fades into an amalgam of unnatural-looking objects and randomized dots.

Considering that Niantic have a reasonable amount of artists in their ranks, the fact that they seemingly used AI-generated art as part of a promotional banner was shocking to Pokemon Go fans.

One player expressed their disbelief: “That absolutely generated. And that’s so disappointing seeing them resort to this when they’ve got some incredible artists.”

Another X user had a similar opinion: “That’s definitely midjourney LOL.” While others keep focusing on the fact that they have great artists like Kozaki Yusuke and Taiga Kasai to work with, and the fact that they might have used AI “makes no sense at all.”

Keep in mind, it has not been confirmed if the allegations against Niantic are true, as the comments from fans are all based on speculation at this point.
