Hoopa is a unique Pokemon that belongs to the Psychic, Dark, and Ghost types. It is one of the newest creatures to be added to Pokemon Go and players have always been fascinated by its ability to change forms.

Hoopa has a confined form and an unbound form. It is Psychic and Ghost-type in the former and Psychic and Dark-type in the latter. The forms also affect the Pokemon’s max CP, moves, and stats.

How to catch Hoopa in Pokemon Go

You can catch Hoopa in Pokemon Go by completing the third part of the Misunderstood Mischief Special Research. Unfortunately, the Special Research was last available in December 2021, and players can no longer access it.

Misunderstood Mischief was released on September 1, 2021, and players had to log in during the season to unlock it. The Special Research isn’t time-pressing implying that once you’ve unlocked it, you can complete it at your own pace.

However, anyone who didn’t log in to the game between September 1, 202,1 and December 1, 2021, cannot get Misunderstood Mischief Special Research and accordingly, Hoopa.

Misunderstood Mischief Special Research guide to getting Hoopa in Pokemon Go

You have to complete the following tasks to catch Hoopa in Pokemon Go:

Task 1

• Make 10 Nice Throws
• Use an Incense
• Take 3 Snapshots of wild Psychic-type Pokemon

Task 2

• Directly collect reward

Task 3

• Make 5 Curveball throws
• Catch 10 different species of Pokemon
• Earn 5000 Stardust

As soon as you complete the third task, you’ll get an opportunity to catch Hoopa in its confined form.

How to catch Hoopa Unbound in Pokemon Go

You can turn Hoopa Confined to Hoopa Unbound in Pokemon Go with Stardust and Hoopa Candy. Go to Hoopa’s menu from the list of Pokemon and you’ll find a CHANGE FORM option.

You’ll require the following amounts of Candy and Stardust to get Hoopa Unbound in Pokemon Go:

• Hoopa Confined > Hoopa Unbound: 50 Hoopa Candy + 10,000 Stardust
• Hoopa Unbound > Hoopa Confined: 10 Hoopa Candy + 2,000 Stardust

Hoopa’s Unbound form is certainly better in terms of stats and Combat Power. However, unlike evolutions, you can change Hoopa Unbound to Hoopa Confined with Candy and Stardust.

When will Hoopa return to Pokemon Go?

Even though we don’t have a re-release date yet, it is almost certain that Hoopa will soon return to Pokemon Go. The developers could release the Misunderstood Mischief Special Research again with updated tasks and give newcomers a chance to get Hoopa Unbound and Hoopa Confined.
