Every game with a speck of lore has fan-made theories, and Pokemon has tons of lore to feed the Pocket Monster conspiracy theorists. But the most recent theory about Terapagos and Paradox Pokemon has fans divided. Beware, there are spoilers ahead.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have a surplus of lore and secrets to be found all across its open world map. But the announcement of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero has sent fans on the hunt for all clues involving the legendary Pokemon Terapagos and its relation with the Paradox Pokemon.

One of those fans has thought of a crazy theory about Paradox Pokemon and the hidden Ability of Terapagos that was recently revealed in the Pokemon anime.

According to this fan, Paradox Pokemon are not from the past nor the future, but they come from the land of dreams. Players have considered this for a while, and their opinions are divided between absolute rejection and the ones that think it’s the most solid theory so far.

According to Reddit user ‘Phinome,’ Paradox Pokemon might come from dreams, according to a popular fan theory. Then he added: “Terapagos brings dreams into reality” and “There’s been a big hint staring us in the face the whole time.”

The clue in question is related to the Pokemon Black and White feature ‘The Dream World’ and its overall design. The frames of the Dream World are the same as those in the starting screen of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games. Cloud-framed images/scenes have been historically used to depict the ‘Dream World,’ not only by Game Freak but by several game developers and different media.

Fans have translated this clue into the possibility that Terapagos does not draw the power of Paradox Pokemon from the past or the future but from the Dream World instead.

Terapagos resembles the World Turtle, said to link the material world and dreams with past and present.

Another Reddit user explained it: “A popular theory rn is that the paradox Mon are created from dreams and not really from the past or future, personally I don’t like the idea and it has some cracks but it’s one of the explanations for why paradox mons are called paradox.”

Not all fans agree on the Terapagos Dream World Theory

But not all fans agree with ‘Phinome,’ and many other Reddit users have been theorizing about Terapagos‘ co-relation with both the Dream World and Paradox Pokemon.

One of them expressed: “The existence of a decade-old product about dreams is not a clue, it’s just basic background knowledge. Unless the claim is that, 11 years ago gamefreak developed an entire game for the only purpose of creating a clue for a subtle plot detail of a DLC of a game that they would release 11 years later and that they likely hadn’t even storyboarded yet.”

And another fan expressed: “A paradox is created when something is in contradiction of itself. In the instance of Paradox Pokémon, I always thought of it as the past/future existing in the present. As the present is neither past nor future, it could be seen as a paradox.”

While another user answered this: “Well tbf also coming from gen 5 is the Dream Radar, which introduces gen 7 character Professor Burnet and the concept of ultra space so who knows.”

Fans are still divided about the ‘Terapagos Dream World theory,’ but as the Pokemon itself has recently shown the power to project into the past by connecting the dreams of both Pokemon and people, this theory might not be as Farfetch’d as it seems.

So yes, there are a lot of clues that link several Pokemon games with the Dream World, and yes, Terapagos does seem to possess some influence in the said world and the material plane. But that does not make this theory a definite one, so take it with a pinch of salt.
