Blizzard have released Overwatch 2 on Steam, which is its first game to appear on Valve’s platform. However, Steam users have been slamming Blizzard’s debut with ‘overwhelmingly negative’ reviews. Here’s what happened with Overwatch 2’s Steam release.

Overwatch 2 has been released on Steam and has immediately been reviewed-bomb by an astonishing amount of players. “Welcome to Steam Blizzard,” one Steam user wrote. “Here are all the honest reviews.”

Disgruntled Overwatch fans have been complaining about its monetization tactics, the lack of promised PvE content, and even the problems they’ve encountered with the Overwatch 2: Invasion update.

“Overwatch 2 has no respect for you, it’s an attempt to pry open your wallet while masquerading as the game it used to be,” wrote Steam user Ornge, which sums up what most users are pointing out on Overwatch 2’s Steam page.

Overwatch 2: Is it the lowest-rated Steam game of all time?

Just one day after its release on the platform, Overwatch 2 is now in the top 10 of the lowest-rated Steam games of all time, according to data from Steam250. With more than 52,106 reviews up until this date, Steam has classified their overall reviews as “Overwhelmingly Negative.”

However, Steam shows how many hours players have been testing the game when writing their reviews. Most of the negative reviews were written by users that spent less than an hour trying out Overwatch 2, while players that spent more than two hours playing represent less than 8% of overall reviews written to this date.

Despite the negative reviews, Overwatch 2 has achieved a peak of 75,608 concurrent players on Steam since its launch, making it the 13th most-played game according to SteamDB. However, even the positive reviews point out the general disappointment about the lack of PvE game modes.

“If you like earning plenty of cosmetics for free and/or mainly play games for PVE experience, Overwatch currently is not great and can’t recommend,” Steam user OrKTos wrote, “BUT if you’re looking for solid team based PVP experience, you will have a great time, especially if you have a group of 5 friends.”
