Overwatch 2 offers an abundance of characters to choose from, with each one offering their own abilities and playstyles. With that said, here are the best Overwatch 2 characters to pick whether you’re playing as a Tank, DPS, or Support hero.
With Overwatch Season 1 underway, and some new faces such as Sojourn, Kiriko, and Junker Queen in the Overwatch 2 roster, you may be wondering who’s the best to play while you level up through the Battle Pass tiers.
If so, it’s important to remember that you will need to select your role when playing Competitive or Quick Play Role Queue. Whichever role you prefer to play, whether DPS, Support, or Tank, we have all of the characters in Overwatch 2 ranked.
Best Overwatch 2 characters ranked
As Overwatch is all about team play and composition, it’s important to break down the best characters in Overwatch 2 into three classes: Tank, DPS, and Support. It’s also wise to remember that this list isn’t gospel and most characters are strong if used correctly, especially if you are picking based on countering who the enemy team picks.
Here are all of the best Tank, DPS, and Support heroes in Overwatch 2 ranked.
Best Overwatch 2 Tank characters
8. Wrecking Ball
6. Junker Queen
There’s a newfound emphasis placed on Tanks in Overwatch 2 since teams can now only have one of them, making it a very important and influential pick when it comes to team composition.
That said, there are many great options, with Zarya, Orisa, and Sigma all being very strong picks for the Tank spot. However, D.Va’s reliable kit arguably makes her the strongest.
D.Va can protect teammates and herself with her Defense Matrix, as well as put out some great close-range damage with her Fusion Cannons and Micro Missles. The Hero also has great mobility with her Boosters, allowing her to reposition when needed.
Best Overwatch 2 DPS characters
1. Soldier 76
Most of the DPS characters are pretty viable in Overwatch 2, especially as some characters are better on certain game modes and maps than others.
Genji remains unchanged from OW1, meaning he continues to be a close-range menace. Further, Sombra offers exciting gameplay with a stealthy kit that sees the hero countering enemy heroes with hacks and staying under the radar with invisibility and a teleport.
That said, Soldier 76 is undoubtedly the best DPS character to pick up, not only because he is very easy to learn and master, but because in terms of damage output, mobility, and survivability, Soldier 76 is a machine.
Best Overwatch 2 Support characters
When it comes to Support heroes in Overwatch 2, Lucio is a quality pick who will benefit your team in both movement speed and healing.
While Lucio is slightly harder to learn and master than some of the other Support heroes such as Mercy, once you are able to switch between movement speed and healing effectively he is worth his weight in gold when it comes to team composition.
