Overwatch 2 is an extremely popular free-to-play title that’s enjoyed by many, and an upcoming event aims to express Blizzard’s support of the Pride community with a new event, which offers free LGBTQ+ cosmetics.

Overwatch 2 is one of the most popular titles out there, with a huge playerbase that spans multiple platforms and communities across the globe.

Even before it was made free-to-play upon launch of the sequel, Blizzard’s shooter has always aimed to represent the many walks of life that enjoy their game through their characters, much like Apex Legends does with its roster.

Coming in Overwatch 2 Season 4, Blizzard Entertainment are releasing a Pride event to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. If you’d like to be involved and also show your support, here are all the details on the event, including how to get the free cosmetics, the event release date, and why certain countries will not be getting the event.

Overwatch 2 Pride event release date

The Pride event for Overwatch 2 will be going live in-game as of June 1, 2023. As detailed in their blog, the devs want “people playing Overwatch 2 to have a way to proudly celebrate who they are.”

So, free Pride cosmetics will be coming to Overwatch 2 for the event, allowing players to “represent” their support for the LGBTQ+ movement in-game.

How to get Overwatch 2 Pride cosmetics for free

In order to get the free Overwatch 2 Pride cosmetics, you simply need to log into the game starting from June 1. There is no end date for these login rewards, so we assume players will continue to receive these free Pride cosmetics even after June.

The free Pride cosmetics for Overwatch 2 include Player Icons, Name Cards, and a Spray. These all celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, providing a variety of ways you can represent yourself and others.

Overwatch 2 Midtown map gets Pride makeover

Further, “for the whole month of June,” the Midtown map will be getting a Pride makeover, as a Pride parade is hitting the streets. Players will see the colorful rainbow across Midtown and the aftermath of a Pride parade.

Also, Watchpoint: Gibraltar will be getting a “new photo in the barracks of Tracer and her partner Emily,” which is also a free Spray that players will get upon logging into the game on and after June 1.

Midtown will host a Pride parade for Overwatch 2’s LGBTQ+ event.

What regions will not be getting the Overwatch 2 Pride event?

In respect of countries that have laws against LGBTQ+ content, the Overwatch 2 Pride event and cosmetics will not be available for players in those countries. Unfortunately, even those in these countries who would like to opt-in will be unable to, as the devs feel it’s only right to follow the laws in countries that they “operate in.”

This was revealed during an interview with Dexerto, where dev Aaron Keller stated that the decision was made in order to “protect players,” as “you can equip a cosmetic in one country and travel to somewhere else with different rules and get in trouble.”

At the time of writing, the devs have not revealed which countries this includes, but as soon as this information is available we will be sure to update this section.
