Major Warzone 2 & Modern Warfare 2 data breach reveals possible 2023 roadmap
Internal Activision documents obtained by hackers at the end of last year may have leaked a huge portion of the 2023 roadmap for both Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2.
Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 is well underway, delivering the largest content drop in both games to date. The battle royale received the new Ashika Island Resurgence map and plenty of gameplay changes, while Modern Warfare 2 got Ranked Play and much more.
There’s plenty more to come however, as Season 2 Reloaded and Season 3 are also on the horizon, and players are always interested to know what the developers have planned. Now, a leak has surfaced which may shed some light on what’s to come in 2023.
Vx-underground, a website known for sharing leaked documents, has claimed that CoD publisher Activision was hacked in December 2022, and the threat actors were able to access internal documents.
Among these was a spreadsheet containing possible dates and content for Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 and beyond. According to the document, Season 3 will allegedly feature three new weapons, three multiplayer maps, a larger battle map, and two new Operators, one of which will be “licensed.”
However, it’s likely that this information is now out of date. It claimed that the Season 3 update will arrive on March 15, although the Battle Pass timer found in-game currently suggests it will be April 12, almost a month later.
The leak also revealed possible details about Season 4, claiming that it will bring similar content to Season 3, but with the addition of a new “small map” for Warzone 2.
Season 6 was also mentioned, with the document revealing it was planned to run from September 15 to November 8. Even more Operators, weapons, and maps were among the plans, as well as what appears to be a Halloween event called “Haunting of Saba.”
Throughout the leaked roadmap, we can also see references to something called “Jupiter,” including an alpha scheduled for May 2023. It doesn’t clarify exactly what Jupiter is, but it’s been speculated that it could be the internal name for CoD 2023.
Shortly after these documents surfaced, Insider Gaming‘s Tom Henderson claimed to have seen the entirety of the information found in the breach and that he was able to verify they are real.
We won’t know for certain whether or not this 2023 roadmap for Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 is accurate until the devs themselves reveal what’s coming.
However, even if it does turn out to be real, the information mentioned does seem to be out of date based on the timeline for each update, suggesting that plans have changed internally since the breach in December of last year.
