Zelda fans can explore Hyrule like never before in Tears of the Kingdom thanks to new areas in the sky and below ground. If you find yourself stuck while exploring the Depths, here is how to get out safely.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom brought back a lot of Breath of the Wild’s elements and expanded them to give fans a whole new experience. Among the many new elements in the game, players can now visit new areas known as the Sky Islands. But that’s not all, since players can also find a terrifying world below the surface, known as the Depths.

While some main and secondary missions take players to the Depths, it’s also a great place to farm Zonaite and other useful resources. It can also be an extremely dangerous place since it’s filled with Gloom that can break Link’s hearts in an instant.

With so much darkness covering every corner of the Depths, it’s easy to get stuck there with no way out. We’ll go through all the available methods to escape the Depths with ease in TOTK.

How to escape the Depths in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The easiest way to get out of the Depths in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is by fast traveling to a Shrine or Sky Tower on the surface or the Sky Islands. You can do this by following these simple steps:

  1. Press Minus (-) to open the map.
  2. Press Up on your D-pad to see the surface map.
  3. Choose any Shrine or Tower you’ve unlocked.
  4. Press A to travel there.

The first time you reached the Depths you likely got there by accident while exploring Hyrule. After falling a huge distance, you’ll find yourself in an extremely dark place where nothing is familiar.

While your first instinct may be to try and use Ascend, the ceiling of the Depths is too far to reach with Link’s ability. So, the only thing left to do in order to return is to fast travel.

However, there are some places in the Depths that will allow you to use Ascend or even climb back out, but it shouldn’t be your main escape plan.

All you need is your Purah Pad to get out of the Depths in TOTK. You should always try to light any Lightroots in your vicinity to have a greater light source for exploring the area without much trouble.
