Elden Ring is a name that has been on the lips of almost every soulslike enjoyer, and now that FromSoftware have announced the release date of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, players must be looking forward to brushing their skills up by getting back into the title.

One of the main subjects of discussion in the Elden Ring community has always been Vyke, one of the mini-bosses in the game. Although he didn’t receive much screen time, his lore was one of the most interesting and deeper ones in the title.

Vyke’s lore explained in Elden Ring

For those who have become Elden Lords in their Elden Ring playthroughs, Vyke was there before you who almost ascended to the throne. However, his plans were ruined after he traveled into Leyndell’s depths to commune with the Three Fingers.

Vyke was an extremely revered figure among the Tarnished and was highly regarded in the Roundtable Hall, so much so that he even gained the love and loyalty of none other than Ancient Dragon Lansseax. However, his plans were thwarted soon as he didn’t want to sacrifice his Finger Maiden to become the Elden Lord.

Just like many Frezied Flame ending enjoyers in Elden Ring, Vyke traveled below Leyndell and communed the Three Fingers for the Frezied Flame. However, in a tragic turn of events, he contracted the flame and lost himself in madness, forever straying away from the path to become the Elden Lord.

Many consider him to be the only other Tarnished except the player themselves who held two Great Runes for the first time after Radagon became the Elden Lord and shattered the Elden Ring.

Vyke’s present whereabouts in Elden Ring

Vyke now roams as a dark spirit, known as the Festering Fingerprint Vyke in Elden Ring. He invades players as they try to reach the Church of Inhibition, which many consider to be the deathbed of his Finger Maiden.

You can even fight him in the Lord Contender Evergaol in the Mountaintops of the Giants, as that will be the final time players meet the mighty Vyke in Elden Ring.

Although you will have to defeat him and put an end to his misery, Vyke’s myth is more or less a major portion of the entire plot in Elden Ring. Players will even have to take on his beloved Ancient Dragon Lansseax as they try to step into the Royal Capital in Leyndell.
