Another new entry in the Prince of Persia series, The Rogue Prince of Persia, is slated for an early access release this year. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

After being dormant for more than a decade, the Prince of Persia franchise will see two back-to-back entries. Following in the footsteps of the acclaimed The Lost Crown earlier this year, The Rouge Prince of Persia is another 2D title, this time with a rogue-lite twist.

So, here are all the details on the fresh entry to the series, The Rogue Prince of Persia, helmed by the team behind Dead Cell, Evil Empire.

The Rogue Prince of Persia release

The Rogue Prince of Persia will first be released on May 14, 2024, in early access. Ubisoft have yet to share the full release date.

Evil Empire did confirm to GameInformer in their preview that the early access is said to include the first act of the story, and that they’ve “planned for three acts” for the final release.

The Rogue Prince of Persia platform

The Rogue Prince of Persia will be available on PC (via Steam). That’s the only platform confirmed so far, and no details have been shared on other platform releases like the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

The Rogue Prince of Persia story and setting

In The Rogue Prince of Persia, you play the titular prince, who goes by the simple name of The Prince. His quest is to save Persia from the corrupted Hun invasion. But, the invasion is The Prince’s own doing, thanks to his reckless attitude.

Taking place in the fictional setting of Ctsesiphon, Persia, The Rogue Prince of Persia is a new chapter of its own and is not tied to any other previous games, much like The Lost Crown. Of course, Ctesiphon is filled with perils, treasures, different biomes, and characters to interact with to progress Prince’s journey.

The Rogue Prince of Persia gameplay

The Rogue Prince of Persia is a 2D roguelite action-platforming adventure, and the gameplay is reminiscent of Dead Cell. It will have both Metroidvania and rougelite experience—you’ll have multiple paths to explore, and it is said to reshuffle each run.

Levels are said to be procedurally generated, and as with any rogue-lite, you’ll have access to more powerful gear as you continue to relentlessly progress through the same sections. Prince being able to come back to life after death is tied to him having a magical bola.

As for combat, it is similar to other 2D sword-based games, and the game will have plenty of enemies and bosses to test your skill. There is a wide variety of weapons as well, bows, shields, grappling hooks, twin daggers, etc, and there is a fair bit of gearing possibilities with medallions.

It wouldn’t really be a PoP game without platforming or parkour. The Rouge Prince of Persia will have all that you’d expect on that front, wall runs, spikes, puzzles, chests, and much more.
