The Outlast Trials gameplay

The Outlast Trials is a first-person multiplayer psychological horror game where players are tasked with missions to complete while trying to avoid monstrous enemies.

Set in the Cold War era, you have been involuntarily recruited by Murkoff Corporation to test methods of brainwashing and mind control. You are a prisoner of war and creepy experiments, and your first objective is to survive.

Completely different from the other games in the Outlast series, veteran players may find themselves taken aback by the heavy focus on multiplayer in this co-op horror game.

The Outlast Trials multiplayer

Unlike the first two games, The Outlast Trials allows for up to four players to get into a party and try and complete the challenges it sets out. If you want to, though, you are able to play the game solo.

There are four characters each with different skill trees and classes. Each class also has a unique ability that lets you perform special actions like healing others, seeing through walls, throwing stun grenades, and placing mines.

Each player starts out with night-vision goggles that let you see in the dimly lit areas of the game. Be warned, though, as these need to be charged regularly. While in-game, you can pick up more items like healing, lockpicks, and drugs to manage your psychosis.

Stealth is the main way to play this game, especially because you can’t actually fight against any of the monsters you run into. You can stun them to try and get away, but considering only one class really has this ability, it’s best to try and sneak your way through the tasks.
