Red Dead Redemption fans are demanding a remastered version for modern consoles. This critically acclaimed game is an all-time favorite, leaving no doubt as to why fans are eager for it. Here is all the information we have on the possibility of a Red Dead Redemption Remastered release.

Rockstar Games have been relatively quiet in recent years, with development on the hotly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 ongoing and GTA Online ticking over with regular updates. Development on Red Dead Redemption 2’s Red Dead Online was even cut back, with the publisher focusing on the next GTA release.

This hasn’t stopped fans from clamoring for the original Red Dead Redemption to receive the GTA Trilogy treatment – updating the performance and visuals for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. But is a remaster of the classic Western in development?

Here’s everything we know about Red Dead Redemption Remastered.

Is Red Dead Redemption Remastered in development?

At the time of writing, Rockstar Games haven’t announced that Red Dead Redemption Remastered is in the works.

A leak from insider Tez2 in 2022 claimed that a remaster of RDR was scrapped following the negative reception to the GTA Trilogy, although this was never confirmed by the devs themselves. The same leak also mentioned that Red Dead Redemption Remastered wasn’t in active development but was “on the table” prior to the launch of The Trilogy.

However, since there has never been any confirmation or denial from Rockstar, this hasn’t stopped constant rumors and speculation that an updated version of the 2010 masterpiece is on the way.

Red Dead Redemption Remastered leaks & rumors

On June 15, 2023, the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea released a new age rating certification for Red Dead Redemption, as reported by Gematsu. This sparked plenty of speculation that Rockstar Games are gearing up to announce the long-awaited remaster.

The rating came with a classification number including “NV,” which signals that the age rating is related to a console game.

That being said, as pointed out by Insider Gaming, this could also mean that Red Dead Redemption is simply being ported to modern consoles without any changes, removing the need for backward compatibility.

On July 27, insider Tez2 posted on their X (formerly Twitter) account that there was a new update on the Rockstar website, and a reference was added within the game lists under the codename: RDR1RSP.

Tez2 speculated about what this could mean, “Red Dead Redemption 1 Remaster SP?” However, a user responded that “RSP stands for Rockstar Presents,” clarifying that the devs always used the acronym RSG for Rockstar Games.

This isn’t the first time that there has been talk of Red Dead Redemption Remastered. In an interview with YouTuber Dan Allen in July 2017, John Marsrston voice actor, Rob Wiethoff, said that he “would love for it to happen,” but admitted that he didn’t know of any plans.
