Foamstars characters

Square Enix released Foamstars, a new party shooter where players will have to build and eliminate their opponents using neon-colored foam guns. Here’s everything you need to know about Foamstars.

While Square Enix fans are waiting for the arrival of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, they can give a try to Foamstars, the studio’s latest FPS. This party-based multiplayer seems to be inspired by Splatoon, where frenetic matches are dominated by the players who make the best out of their foam guns.

Foamsters promises a fast-paced competition where players will be able to show their skills in Ranked and Extreme parties, as well the more relaxed Happy FriYAY party who’ll let them try out their seasonal Foamstar’s character.

Here’s everything you need to know about Foamstars.

Foamstars: Release date and platforms

Foamstar was released on February 6, 2024, and it is available on release for all PS Plus subscribers up until March 4, 2024. Non-PS Plus members will be able to purchase Foamstars starting on March 5, 2024.

Square Enix confirmed that Foamstars is a PlayStation exclusive, and there’s currently no news about a future launch on Xbox or PC yet.

Foamstars gameplay

Foamsters is a 4v4 party shooter where players will have to eliminate their enemy team using foam guns. Foam can also be used to build and alter the map, and players can create foam fortresses and model the terrain to surf across the map.

Foamstars maps
Foamstars’ maps are multi-level spaces that players can alter with their guns.

Created as a casual yet competitive experience for everyone, Foamstars is set in the city of Bath Vegas, where users can compete in the Foamsmash tournament. This competition features a combination of PvP and PvE modes for up to eight players, either as four vs. four, solo, or co-op as a Squad with three teammates.

Foamstars seasons

Foamstars promised to introduce free seasonal updates over one year. A season lasts approximately five weeks and brings a new character and a selection of maps, events, and cosmetics. Each season will include a Season Pass, testing players to progress through the tiers by earning experience points through battles, missions, and challenges to unlock various rewards.

All players will immediately gain access to the new modes and maps to ensure they are always part of the Foamstars party, while also having the opportunity to unlock the new characters by progressing through the ranks and achieving challenges.
