Epic Games have purchased Tonic Games Group, the makers of Fall Guys. They plan to expand the game in the future, including adding cross-play with all platforms.

Fall Guys was massively popular when it was released in 2020, attracting multiple top streamers and millions of new players. After a few months of playing, gamers seemed to largely move on from the game show-style battle royale, and onto other party games like Among Us.

The game still has a strong following and remains a welcome break from competitive gaming. Now, the developers of Fall Guys, Tonic Games Group, have joined the ranks of Fortnite and Rocket League after being purchased by Epic Games.

The announcement came on May 2 in a press release from Epic. “At Tonic Games Group we often say that ‘everyone deserves a game that feels like it was made for them.’” said Dave Bailey, Tonic Games CEO. “With Epic, we feel like we have found a home that was made for us. They share our mission to build and support games that have a positive impact, empower others and stand the test of time and we couldn’t be more excited to be joining forces with their team.”

Fall Guys cross-play

Fall Guys suffered from a few issues when it first came out. The first was the $30 pricetag, which was a bit hefty for a party game such as Fall Guys. If Epic’s decision to make Rocket Legue free-to-play is any indecation, then we might see the same with Fall Guys.

The other problem was the lack of cross-play, which we now know will change after the Epic Games acquisition. Epic announced that they will bring cross-play to Fall Guys in the future, although we’re not sure as to when.

Epic will also help bring the game to Xbox and Nintendo Switch – two platforms that missed out on the Fall Guys craze of 2020. We expect this to be the first item on the team’s to-do list.

Fall Guys purchased by Epic Games

Fall Guys is still a fun and exciting game. A lot of gamers lost interest after the lack of updates, new modes, and innovation. Tonic Games may not have had the resources to properly support such a popular game, but Epic Games do.

We’re excited to see what this acquisition means for Fall Guys, outside of those we’ve already listed. We heard about Fortnite skins coming to Fall Guys in the future, and this announcement probably means that they’re coming soon.
