Forza Motorsport is the newest iteration of Turn 10’s racing simulation experience. The game pushes realism in all aspects with an aim to please racing enthusiasts. At launch, the game offers around 500 cars and 20 tracks for players to explore. When coupled with new modes like the Builder’s Cup, there’s plenty to do in the game with more content coming in the near future.

The sim racer introduces a variety of new systems including Segment Scores. These scores quickly rate the player’s driving chops and award CXP for their efforts. With this in mind, here’s everything to know about Segment Scores in Forza Motorsport including how to get high Segment Scores.

Segment Scores in Forza Motorsport explained

Segment Scores in Forza Motorsport
Segment Scores in Forza Motorsport are a good way to assess your own performance.

The Segment Scores system in Forza Motorsport grades the player’s performance while driving through specific zones on a track. These zones are usually a string of corners that can have a significant effect on lap times. While driving through these key segments, a timer will pop up near the bottom of the screen.

After finishing the segment, the game quickly assesses your time using an algorithm that calculates the potential performance of your car with all your upgrades attached. Following this, it displays a score on the top right of the screen between 1.0 and 10 that essentially grades your performance for that segment.

This score affects the CXP players earn as setting new personal best times provide bonuses. Scores above 8.0 are classified as ‘Good’ with a perfect 10 being ‘Great.’

Segment Scores are primarily present in Practice sessions in the Builder’s Cup mode and Featured Multiplayer. The starting and ending point of all key segments has an indicator to notify players as they approach them.

How to get high Segment Scores in Forza Motorsport

Getting high Segment Scores in Forza Motorsport is all about completing zones as quickly as possible. Being familiar with your car helps with this as you have a better understanding of your vehicle’s maneuverability through tight corners.

Besides this, here are a few pointers for getting high Segment Scores in Forza Motorsport:

Follow the driving line

Following the Driving line in Forza Motorsport is a reliable way to tackle corners.

The racing line in Forza Motorsport displays a suggested path to follow while racing on a track. Sticking to the line is a reliable way to nail segments. Make sure to hit the brakes when the line turns red and steer through corners before exiting with full throttle.

Avoid Penalties

Incurring a Penalty will immediately tank your Segment Score in Forza Motorsport to 1.0. This makes it necessary to avoid collisions or going off-track. After being penalized, your score will be affected even if you manage to record a personal best time.

Use the curbs

Using the curbs to maneuver through tight corners can help improve your Segment Scores in Forza Motorsport. Remember to be precise while approaching curbs as you run the risk of going off-track. Driving on them should give players on controller a bit of feedback via vibrations, so make sure to ride them and accelerate at the right time.
